In the heart of the Périgord Vert near the Parc Naturel Régional du Périgord, Les Volets Rouges is a charming self-catering gite, newly renovated, and convenient to many local facilities.

Situated in the hamlet of Gaillarde in the commune of Villars, this old stone house has been sympathetically restored to create a comfortable holiday home with views over beautiful surrounding countryside.

The village of Villars has a boulangerie, post office and village store. Local markets are held in Nontron, Brantôme and Thiviers, which are all within 30 minutes drive. Perigueux, within 45 minutes drive, is the busy regional capital, and offers much in the way of history, shopping and gastronomy to enjoy.

Exclusive peaceful holiday facility, but with many activities available in the surrounding area.

Villars/Dordogne Local Area

The Grotte de Villars is situated nearby, which is full of spectacular stalactites and stalagmites, and some prehistoric paintings. Within 30 minutes drive is the subterranean monolithic church at Aubeterre. There are many chateau such as Hautefort, Bourdeilles, Puyguilehm, and the stunning Jumillhac all within easy reach, while several rivers cross the region offering canoeing and fishing. Many cultural events take place during the summer, with concerts held in St Jean de Cole, Brantome and other villages, while Perigueux hosts an annual Mimos festival, accompanied by Jazz and classical music concerts. Canoeing, tennis, horse riding, cycling, walking, and fishing are all available locally.

 

How to Get Here

Travel Details

By car – We are approximately 7.5 hours from Calais and the Channel Ports or Eurotunnel.
From St Malo or Le Havre it is approximately 6 hours.

From all ports head south to Angoulême and follow local roads to Villars. Gaillarde is situated on the outskirts of Villars on the Brantome road. The hamlet is signposted next to a small sawmill. Map available on request

By Rail – Eurostar and TGV trains serve Angoulême via Lille.
If travelling from Paris board a train at Gare d'Austerlitz direct to Limoges.
Thiviers is the nearest local rail link connecting to Limoges or Bordeaux.


By Air – The area is serviced by three main airports with good car hire facilities.
